With the Toronto Islands as our home port, we are spoiled with a wide variety of sailing destinations for a short weekend cruise. This past weekend we headed to the Oakville Yacht Squadron on 16 Mile Creek.
Our boat, a Pearson 30, sails well. She points well, moves in light air or a blow and handles waves without a problem. This weekend wasn't a challenge. The winds were a steady 10-15 knots and the waves were less than 2 feet. It is a delight to point your boat at the CN Tower and feel her move along.
I commend the members of the Oakville Yacht Squadron. They have a lovely club. The shared BBQs and a great bonus and the location is superb. It is a significant contrast from the serentity and seclusion of QCYC. OYS is in the hear to the action of downtown Oakville. Great shops and restaurants. Lots of activity up and down the river. Boats of all kinds, kayakers and dragon boat racers.
I think they need a friendly yellow lab. The Canada Geese make a mess - on the boats, on the docks, on the grass and on the paths. It is illegal to harm or harrass the geese. But who is to say that another animal, say a yellow lab, just doing his thing wouldn't encourage the geese to spend more time in the neighbouring park and less time on the docks at the club.
I hope all of you had a fine weekend.
