For thirty-three years QCYC has been organizing and hosting the Women Skippers Race.  This race serves two purposes.  First, it encourages women to take the helm and not just passively assist as their husband or boyfriend captains the boat.  Second, it is usually a fundraiser for a worthwhile charity.

This year, we raced to raise money for the Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario.  A great cause for a club to support.

We were able to get the family together for a day of sailing.  It was a glorious day.  Although the winds were light, there was wind and small waves.  The sun shone.  It took about 4 hours to sail the course.

Since I do not usually race, I always find the dynamics of this sail unusual.  You are forced to push your limits, taking your tacks far closer to the shore in order to minimize the number of turns.  Planning how to move through multiple boats without hitting them and without loosing speed.

We finished in the middle of the pack.  Not bad for a family of non racers.  Most importantly, we had a great day together.
