The V Berth

We love our Pearson 30 and the V Berth has just the right amount of space for us, however, it is time for new cushions. I have never purchased or made a mattress and find the process a little daunting. Foam? What kind? How thick? A custom made mattress? Will we feel the springs? Will it rust? Is it heavy? We are off to the Anapolis Boat Show in October and hopefully we will find a solution there. In the meantime, if you have replaced your V Berth cushions, post your thoughts.

We had an old foam thing that was stenchy and gross. After replacing it with a very nice cotton custom quilted mattress (4 inch), on the First Week we had friends staying in the Vberth and they left the hatch unlocked!
We knew it was the end of a $500 mattress (1989) and took it on deck, hosed it off, let it dry (missed a day sailing) and put it back. it never got foosty! we had it for 10 years and although it was mostly flat, it stayed up well. I don't sleep well with foam. Trackbacks
