We all got a big shock early in the morning of August 1. An early rising QCYC member noticed flames in a second floor window of our historic yacht club and immediately called 911.
Fortunately, our fast acting marine police and island firemen were able to get the blaze under control very quickly.
We were lucky. Most of the damage was sustained by the kitchen and the back wall of the bar. The great hall, dining room and offices were untouched. There was some water damage to the ceiling tiles on the first floor. These were ugly and will not be missed. The firemen also had to cut a hole in the roof to be sure the rafters weren't smoldering.
We were lucky. There is a mess to clean up, but nothing that can't be fixed.
