In the fall of 2003, Eriks and I decided to address some of the areas of delamination on Hot Tamale's decks. As with all things, we used the let's do it right once approach and so this was a large project.
We used a combination of personal brute strength and hired consultants to get the job done. Eriks and I were responsible for taking all the hardware off the decks, refinishing all the bright work and reinstalling all the hardware. We hired a fibreglass and gelcoat artist named Louise to do the jobs that required expertise: cutting away the delaminated sections, recoring and applying new gelcoat/non skid.
To understand how big a job this was, here are some partial pictures of the sections being readied for recoring.
To see more before and after photos, have a look in the Photo Album under Redoing the Decks.
In future weeks, I will be posting a series of articles on this project: cost, steps, tips and mistakes.
