The original backing plates for the stanchions were made out of fibre glass.  The deck in these areas was not flat and the bolts had bent significantly.  Eriks decided aluminum backing plates would be more rigid.  We had Louis (who was doing the fibre glass work on the decks) cut away a little of the liner at each stanchion locate and ensure the underside of the deck was flat at these locations.  In this way, the new backing plates could be mounted flush to the underside of the deck and remove the strain on the bolts.
